THE Faculty of Engineering and Computer Technology (FECT) is one of the key featuresat AIMST University in Semeling, Kedah.
It embraces two closely interacting schools - the School of Engineering and School of Computer Science and Information Technology.
Established in 2002, FECT is offering degree and diploma programmes in Electrical & Electronic Engineering as well as degree programmes in Information Technology with Management and Information Systems.
The faculty is also planning to offer programmes majoring in Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics and Materials Engineering.
The FECT is manned by highly-qualified and experienced staff who are conversant with the needs of industry and academia.
It has formed an Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) for its curriculum improvements and fulfils the needs of the industries and other stakeholders.
It is well equipped with modern laboratories such as Electrical Machines, Analog and Digital electronics, eCAD, IT, Microprocessor, PCB, Materials Testing, Thermo Fluids and Mechanical Workshop. The faculty is also very active in research and development activities. It recently started the Faculty Research Committee which looks into the proposals in most of the research priority areas.
The FECT is organising the 2nd AIMST Engineering and Information Technology (AEIT) Week from July 20 to 24, 2009, which is a public awareness and education campaign highlighting the role and achievements of engineers and IT professionals in Malaysia.
A wide variety of events are being hosted every year to promote and showcase engineering and IT programmes at AIMST University. The achievements of local engineering organisations, universities and their teams are also exhibited during this week. This programme is relevant for secondary school students, parents, teachers, career advisers, as well as the wider community from other fields.
In 2008, over 200 students from secondary schools attended the AEIT Week events which included site and lab tours, school students' activities, career expos, career advisory services and more.
The main objective of AEIT Week is to create enthusiasm about the engineering and IT professions among the secondary school students, parents, teachers and public.
